Nigel Slater Life story


Nigel Slater OBE is an English food writer, journalist and broadcaster. He has written a column for The Observer Magazine for over a decade and is the principal writer for the Observer Food Monthly supplement. Prior to this, Slater was a food writer for Marie Claire for five years.

Early Life

Nigel slater was born on april 9. 1958 in wolverhampton. England. He was raised by his mother and grandmother. Who taught him to cook. He attended wolverhampton grammar shcool and then wnet on to study english literature at goldsmiths college in london.

Career

Slater began his career as a food writer in 1992 when he was appointed food writre for the observer magazine. Since then. He has written a number of cookbooks. Including the popular real fast food (1994) and papetite (1998). He has also appeared on television in the uk and around the world. Including the bbc show eating together and the channel 4 series nigel slaters simple suppers.

Slater has been the recipient of numeorus awards. Including the guild of food writers lifetiem achievement award in 2007 and the glenfiddich food and drink awards best cookery writer award in 2008.

Adam Peaty's childhood swimming pool could be demolished

A former Derby leisure centre where gold medal swimmer Adam Peaty trained could be demolished.

Queen's Leisure Centre on Cathedral Road has stood empty since May 2022, having operated for 90 years.

Mr Peaty has said he regularly visited The Venue as a child, learning How To become a competitive swimmer.

The Council said all options remained open but they were exploring the " regeneration potential" of this part of The City .

The centre was popular with city residents, but closed shortly before the opening of The City 's, with The Council saying it.

Ongoing discussions

Mr Peaty said he learned competitive swimming at The Pool , under the guidance of former Olympian Mel Marshall.

He made a special visit to The Site ahead of its scheduled closure, the said.

Derby City Council's new cabinet member in charge of the City Centre , Nadine Peatfield, told a full council meeting: " All options remain open at this stage.

" The Council has been exploring the regeneration potential of this part of the City Centre and is in The Process of procuring a delivery partner in order to determine The Best possible outcome for The Future of the QLC site and the wider area.

" A development brief is being prepared to support that process. While demolition of The Site is a possible option, retaining use of The Building or part of it will also be considered, in light of our climate commitment. "
