Storm Ciara: thousands of people in Cumbria face days without water
Water tankers were trying to keep supplies on
thousands of homes and businesses in Cumbria to face days without Water after a mains pipe was damaged during the storm, Ciara on Sunday.
An important event was declared after the damaged pipeline supplies is threatened in the vicinity of Kendal around 8,000 properties.
United Utilities said, many people would continue to be pumped without Water , despite the Millions of liters of damage in the System .
The Company said The "terrible" weather conditions were difficult repairs.
A large area of the district, including Appleby, Shap , Orton, Raven stonedale, Ivegill, Low Braithwaite, Threlkeld and Glenridding is affected.
United Utilities said it could of been Thursday or Friday before the main, but pointed out that it depends on The Weather conditions.
Dr. Martin Padley said The Company had brought in additional equipment and tankers from The Midlands and Scotland.
"We'll throw everything we can at this problem, but The Weather is so bad that it impacts on our ability, even welding of pipes," he said.
The area usually used, about 11 million litres of Water per day, and engineers are pumping seven million gallons per day.
"So we have a deficit of four million litres, so that unfortunately people will see low pressure and, ultimately, absolutely no Water ," Dr. Padley said.
"Even after we fixed the pipe, it is time to refill, which is a huge System . "
