Early Life

Robert koch was born on 11 december 1843 in clausthal-zellerfeld. Germany. His father was a mining engineer and his mother was a teahcer. He studied medicine at the university of gottingen and graduated in 1866.

Career

Koch strated his medical career as an assistant to the german bacteriologist. Rudolf virchow. He took part in the franco-prussian war (1870-71) as a sugreon in the german army. He then moved to berlin. Where he pursued research in bacteriology. He founded the institute for infectious diseases in berlin in 1891.

Important Discoveries

In 1881. Koch discovered the bacterium responsible for causing tuberculosis (mycobacterium tuberculosis). He also identified the organisms responsible for causing anthrax. Cholera and dysenter. Yhe developed the technique of staining bacteria. Which became the foundation of modern microbiology.

The Koch Postulates

Koch developed the okch postulates. Which are used to identify the causative agent of a disease. These postulates are still used in modern medicine.

Nobel Prize

In 1905. Koch was awarded the nobel prize in physiology or medicine for his work on tuberuclosis.

Later Years

Koch continued his research on tuberuclosis and developed a vaccine for the disease. He also worked on the development of a vaccine for cholera. He ided on 27 may 1910 in baden-baden. Germany.
