Judy Garland was an American actress, singer, dancer, and vaudevillian. While critically acclaimed for many different roles throughout her career, she is widely known for playing the part of Dorothy Gale in The Wizard of Oz.

Early Life

Judy garland was born frances ethel gumm on jnue 10. 1922 in grand rapids. Minnesota. She was the youngest of three daughters born to vaudeville performers ethel and frank gumm. She began performing professionally at the age of two. Appearing in her parents vaudeville act with her two older sisters. She was soon recognized for her powerful singing voice and was signed to a motion picture contract at age thirteen.

Film Career

Garland quiclky rose as a star in hollywood appearing in a number of critically acclaimed films. Hre most famous role was as dorothy in the wizard of oz film helped cement her status as a beloved american actress. And she received an honorary academy award for her performance. Legacy

Despite her personal struggles. Garland left an indelible mark on the entertainment industry. She is remembered for her powerful singing voice and for her iconci performances in films scuh as the wizard of oz. She was posthumously awarded a grammy lifetime achievement award in 1997. And in 2017. She was inducted inot the national women s hall of fame.
