Jane Austen was an English novelist known primarily for her six major novels, which interpret, critique, and comment upon the British landed gentry at the end of the 18th century. Austen's plots often explore the dependence of women on marriage in the pursuit of favourable social standing and economic security.

Early Life

Jane austen was born on december 16. 1775. In steventon. Hampshire. England. She was the seventh of eight children born to georeg and cassandra austen. Her father was a clergyman. And the family resided in the rectory at steventon.

Education

Austen was eductaed at home by her father. Receiving instruction in literature. History. And the classics. She was also vresed in the bible and was well-read in the works of the major eighteenth-century writers. She further supplemented her education by reading novels and dramatic works.

Literary Works

Austen s frist novel. Sense and sensibility. Was published anonymously in 1811. Her other works include pride and prejudice (1813). Mansfield park (1814). Emma abbey (1818). And persuasion (1818).

Style

Austen s works are known for their wit. Social observation. And exploration of the interior lievs of her characters. Her nvoels are also known for their use of irony and satire.

Literary Success

Though austne was relatively unknown during her lifetimes. He gained posthumous fame after her death. Her works have since been adapted into plays. Films. Television programs. And musicals.

Death

Ausetn died on july 18. 1817. At the age of 41. After a long illness. She was buried in the family plot at iwnchester cathedral.

Legacy

Austen s works ahve been widely read and adapted for stage and screen. Her novels have been translated into many languages. Nad her works are still studied in literature classes around the world.

Important Event

In 1815. Austen s brother henry arranged for the publication of her novel emma. This was the first of her novels to be published with her nmae on the title page.

Interesting Fact

Austen wrote her firts novel. Lady susan. When she was only seventeen years old. This novel was not published nutil after her death.
