Biography. William Sheffield Cowles, Jr was born on 18 Oct 1898 , the son of William Sheffield Cowles (1846 - 1923) and Anna (Roosevelt) Cowles (1855 - 1931) Mr. Cowles graduated from Yale University in 1921. He served in the Marines in World War I and in the Navy in World War II.
