Feb 16,2020 2:53 am

Dr John Wright , Bradford Royal Infirmary, says, "we run for our lives," such as doctors search for a treatment for Covid-19, in a nationwide medical study.

9. April 2020

There were one-and-a-half million cases of Covid-19 around The World , and 55,000 in the UK, with over 6,000 people are dying. It is hard to think of peace, if you are in The Middle of The War . But we need an Exit Strategy .

will be found A vaccine, but the path is at least a year, and if We Are to save precious lives, we urgently need effective treatments today. To do this, we need to take advantage of The Best medical research in the UK.

The Time is Now to unite all of our bright research lights and light them to Covid-19.

This is the reason why we at the Bradford Royal Infirmary are taking part in The Recovery study. It stands for Randomised Evaluation of Covid-19-therapy, and the recruitment of anyone over the Age Of 18 years to The Hospital 's supplies with coronavirus.

" All patients are randomly assigned to one of the five arms, and receive either a placebo or one of Four experimental treatments. More Than 130 of them are sick, involved houses, including St Thomas' in London, where the Prime Minister Boris Johnson was treated. Today, towards The End of The Second week, 2,000 patients were recruited, of which 30 in Bradford.

Prof John Wright , a physician and epidemiologist, is head of the Bradford Institute for Health Research. He cares for patients in epidemics around The World , including cholera, HIV, and ebola outbreaks in Africa South of the Sahara. In The Next few weeks he will be reporting for The Bbc , such as The Hospital , the Bradford Royal Infirmary, is dealing with Covid-19.

you can read his previous diary entries:

This is one of the advantages of a National Health Service. We have never coordinates so that a large study, and recruit everyone in this country.

It is the largest and most urgent research is race in living memory, and we run for our lives.

On Tuesday I accompanied Dr. Dinesh Saralaya morning on the ward round in the Station 31, which is where The First of our Covid-19-patients were admitted, and, as before, the center of the shot was. Since then, our infectious is - "Red Zone " has expanded - the red tide is steadily higher and higher, seeping through The Hospital . We had More Than 200 cases and 30 deaths.

Dinesh took me to a patient, in his 40s, the symptoms described he had started About 12 days earlier.

"The First Three Days , I would say, it the temperature was chill, And Then I lost appetite and my taste. And Then , my cough was very bad. And in the night it was like a fit of coughing, And Then it just stop," He Said .

He also had bleeding with the nose.

After Three Days in The Hospital , he was already much better.

At this point, it was time to turn him on his belly - "belly time", as The Nurses call it - that makes it often easier for the patient to breathe.

It was explained to him, if he administered agreed to participate in the study, that perhaps a placebo. The Other Four possibilities are:

The Danger Zone is between 10 and 15 days, so that this patient is Not Yet in the clear, although he says he feels better.

Dinesh explained to him that The Treatment will end The Day he leaves The Hospital , and that the main beneficiaries would be future patients, because the data from the study that would show which treatment is the most effective.

After that, I asked Zulfi Karim, the President of the Bradford Council for mosques, as he thought, The City 's Muslim Community - about one-third of the population - were feeling about the pandemic and the measures to address them.

"I think it has now dawned at last, all how deadly it is," He Said .

"has been sitting reality. I think that the Community representative is absolutely the feeling that the blocking of mosques and the suspension of the meetings was The Right thing to do. And now it is very much about How we travel?'"

the decision to close The mosques in The City , was already in the 20. March, days before the government-imposed blocking came into force. But unfortunately, for Zulfi it was already Too Late . He began to display symptoms of Covid-19, and since has been really sick. He is finally showing signs of recovery, after a time, I was very worried about him.

I put it to Zulfi that coronavirus has highlighted inequalities. If you don't live in a beautiful house with a beautiful garden, lockdown is too bad, but if you live in a crowded house in the Inner City , it is really hard.

He agreed.

"It's hard, and it's not just hard, but I think what we would find if we on The Other hand, that these areas are probably where we had the highest number of deaths as well. "
