About USS Whitehurst (DE-634)
USS Whitehurst (DE-634), a Buckley-class destroyer escort of the United States Navy, was named in honor of Ensign Henry Purefoy Whitehurst, Jr. ENS Whitehurst was a crew member of the Astoria when he was killed while his ship participated in the Battle of Savo Island off Guadalcanal in August 1942.
