About USS Saury (SS-189)
USS Saury (SS-189), a Sargo-class submarine, was the only ship of the United States Navy to be named for the saury, a long-beaked relative of the flying fish found in the temperate zones of the Atlantic. Her keel was laid down on 28 June 1937 by the Electric Boat Company in Groton, Connecticut.
