Hawkbill (SS-366) was launched by Manitowoc Shipbuilding Co. , Manitowoc, Wisc. 9 January 1944; sponsored by Mrs. F. W. Scanland, Jr. , and commissioned 17 May 1944, Lt. Comdr.
