Upagupta Life story
Upagupta was a Buddhist monk. According to some stories in the Sanskrit text Ashokavadana, he was the spiritual teacher of the Mauryan emperor Ashoka. Upagupta's teacher was Śāṇavāsa, who was a disciple of Ānanda, the Buddha's attendant.
