artist Sonia Boyce is to be The First black woman to represent Great Britain at the prestigious Venice Biennale next year.
Boyce, The Flag with a new major exhibition, at the worldwide most important festival for Contemporary Art .
she told BBC Radio 4 's Today programme, came the offer as "a real shock, but a real joy as well".
The London -based artist rose to prominence in the 1980s as one of the leading lights of black British art.
Boyce Devotional collection, an archive of black British women in the music they showed a film, the Exquisite cacophony in Venice in 2015your art often deals with issues of race and gender, first of all, working with pastel, And Then moving into photography, video, sound and installations.
"That the Early Work in the 1980s was very much about me as the center of many of these images that I made, and I would often talk about Growing Up in the UK, black and female, and what it was like to be this time," she says Today.

Boyce was chosen for an MBE in 2007, and has been to the Royal Academy in the year 2016. She is currently also creating a large artwork for the new Elizabeth train in Newham, East London .
