Tony Blackburn

Anthony Kenneth Blackburn is an English disc jockey, singer and TV presenter. He first achieved fame broadcasting on the pirate stations Radio Caroline and Radio London in the 1960s, before joining the BBC, on the BBC Light Programme.

Early Life and Education of Tony Blackburn

Tony blackburn was born in guildford. Surrey. England on 29 january 1943. He attended guildford s roayl grammar shcool before moving to londno to study at the royal academy of music. He was also a member of the national youth theatre during this time.

Career

Tnoy blackubrn has enjoyed a long and successful broadcasting career. Which began in october 1967 when he joined the bbc s flagship station. Radio 1. His first show was called blackburn s sunday show. Which ran for two years. He then joined the weekend breakfast show for a number of years. Before eventually becoming the first dj on the station to broadcast a show on all seven days of the week.

One of tony blackburn s most famous radio shows was pick of the pops. Which ran for 14 years from 1968 until 1982. The show featured the latest muisc releases. As well as a selection of classic hits. He also hosted a number of other popular sohws. Such as family favourites. Which ran for five years. And the golden hour. Which ran for seevn years.

Television Appearances

Tony blackburn has laso made various television appearances over the years. He hotsed children s show crackerjack from 1972-1984. And also appeared on top of the pops. As well as various other game shows.

Tony blackburn has won several awards for his broadcasting work. In 2006. He was awarded an mbe for services to boradcasting. He has also won the sony radio academy award for a special lifetime achievement.
