About Thorondor
Thorondor is Sindarin for "King of Eagles", being the combination of thoron ("eagle") + taur, -dor ("king"). The Quenya cognate is Sorontar. In earlier versions of the legendarium he was called Sorontur in Qenya, from the root SORO ("eagle") + tur ("king").
