Yellow warning for more heavy rain in flood-hit areas

Sep 24,2023 8:01 pm

More Heavy Rain is forecast for flood-hit areas in The West of Scotland, the Met Office has warned.

A yellow warning for rain in Argyll, Glasgow and The West Highlands is in place from 06:00 to 21:00.

It is expected that 15-25mm of rainfall will fall within The Warning zone, with 40-50mm possible on High Ground .

This volume of rainfall would not usually warrant A Warning , but the Met Office said it was a concern after unprecedented rainfall at the weekend.

Large swathes of Scotland saw about a month's worth of rain on Saturday during an amber weather warning.

It brought severe flooding to parts of Argyll, Angus, Perth, Aberdeenshire, Moray and the Highlands.

The Met Office stated: " Heavy rainfall will affect parts of western Scotland on Tuesday, bringing a risk of some additional flooding and transport disruption".

Flood warnings remain in place in many parts of Scotland, according to the Scottish Environment Protection Agency.

Two severe flood warnings were in place in Aviemore and Perth on Monday, while 34 flood warnings and 10 flood alerts were in place elsewhere around the country.

Emergency services are still during Heavy Rain in Perthshire.

Elsewhere, the A83 between the Rest and Be Thankful and Inverary, Argyll and Bute, remains closed for work to remove debris from landslips which resulted in ten people being airlifted to safety on Saturday.

Road maintenance firm Bear Scotland said it had removed 9,500 tonnes of debris from the A83, with a further 2,000 tonnes on the hillside likely to need removing before The Road can safely open.

Bear Scotland's Ian Stewart said: " The scale of the operation to clear the A83 is considerable, but The Teams on site are working hard and for as long as they can safely do so. "

Network Rail Scotland said The Line between Dunblane and Perth would remain closed on Tuesday while it worked to repair a " huge amount" of flood damage.

It hopes to reopen The Line on Wednesday morning.

Residents in Perth were among those who suffered The Most from the Heavy Rain and flooding.

Fire crews spent Monday pumping water from houses as people tried to salvage their belongings.

Bell's Sports Centre as well as basement flats and businesses on Rose Terrace and Charlotte Street were flooded in the downpours.

As a result of the Heavy Rain , Scotland's farmers have said they have suffered some of the.

Farming union NFU Scotland said millions of pounds worth of unharvested vegetables, potatoes and other crops had been damaged by The Flood waters.

One farm, Stewarts of Tayside, estimates that about half A Million pounds worth of food crops destined for supermarkets had been ruined across 60 hectares of its land.
