Movies/Shows When Scottie Smalls (Thomas Guiry) moves to a new neighborhood, he manages to make friends with a group of kids who play baseball at the sandlot. Together they go on a series of funny and touching adventures. The boys run into trouble when Smalls borrows a ball from his stepdad that gets hit over a fence.
This moving biographical drama follows the life of revered baseball player Lou Gehrig (Gary Cooper). Championed by sportswriter Sam Blake (Walter Brennan), Gehrig eventually gets recruited by the New York Yankees, joining a team of heavy hitters that includes the legendary Babe Ruth. When Gehrig marries his spirited sweetheart, Eleanor (Teresa Wright), things look up for him, but he is soon sidelined by a terrible illness that he bravely tries to battle.
Chronically unemployed Yankees fan Harold "Speedy" Swift (Harold Lloyd) dates Jane Dillon (Ann Christy), a girl whose beloved grandfather, Pop (Bert Woodruff), runs a failing horse-drawn trolley business, in a rapidly changing city where the railway is becoming king. When a crooked railroad official steals Pop's last car, hoping to force him into a shutdown, Speedy must race against the clock to find the culprits, return the car in time, and keep the service running on schedule.
The bubbly romance between a baseball star and a laundress goes down the drain when the slugger's love of chewing tobacco makes a mess of their relationship.
Babe Ruth joins some musicians to create a new song and even conducts the orchestra.
Country boy Babe (Babe Ruth) dreams of playing baseball in the major leagues. The young man has home-run talent, but owner John Tobin (Ralph Harolds) refuses to give him a spot on the local team due to his feud with pitcher Harry Knight (William Sheer). Undeterred, Babe joins up with their long-standing rivals. When his batting skills help defeat Tobin's team, Babe earns the enmity of everyone in town and flees to New York City to find his destiny on the diamond.
Newsreel footage showcases American life and notable events, beginning with the 1918 Armistice and ending with the fateful stock-market crash of 1929.
