In a small town, Minta (Dorothy Peterson) and Jim Hagen (Charles Kemper) bring home an adopted baby; at the same time, a mysteriously ill socialite returns home from an unnamed location. Town gossips believe the Hagens' child is that of the socialite and her old boyfriend, Tom Bates (Ronald Reagan).
