Feb 16,2020 6:16 am

The Gender identity Service is to say at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust

Staff of England's only children's NHS gender clinic, that the concerns about the welfare of the patients were shut down, leaked documents reveal.

clinicians reported concern that some of the patients referred to were, the equality of the transition by way too fast.

BBC Newsnight has seen the protocols of interviews with employees from a review of the Gender Identity Development Service.

The Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust, where The Service is running, defended the review and their practices.

The post was published in the spring of 2019 after The Trust asked its medical Director, Dr. Dinesh Sinha, to investigate serious concerns about children, the welfare increases by employees in an internal Report .

transcripts of some of the interviews with the employees as part of the review.

The Trust said it had seen no immediate problems in relation to the safety of patients or the General approach of the gender identity service (GID), still claim in the transcripts clinicians, the child protection and safeguarding the interests of "shut down".

In the transcripts, the Staff of withering judgment in the assessment of some parts of The Service

"Let us pray that I Am wrong, because if I'm not mistaken, very many vulnerable children were treated very badly and with the left, potentially life-long damage here," says one.

"The reality is, to do nothing, The Children may still be in the medically ill. "

The Tavistock - Like other NHS Organisations , has a named person, the doctors can then discuss in turn the specific safety concerns.

But the Staff claimed that they were discouraged by the GID Director Polly Carmichael, to see the confidence of the fuse, and refers cases to Social Services .

Dr. Polly Carmichael was interviewed on The Bbc , The Victoria Derbyshire Show earlier this year,

According to the transcripts, these were cases in which employees feared a child had suffered sexual abuse or trauma.

"In my previous work, if you had a concern, they will find you," it is claimed.

"And that's not going to happen. "

approach felt "unsafe"

The Trust , said hedging was specially designed for the GIDS in August 2018 to reflect the growth in The Service .

But in their interviews, employees do not see this as reasonable, and argued that there were great differences in practice, in the case of GID.

"It was a very clear message that the Lead from the senior management, have to be really careful how we speak to the safeguarding team at the Tavi [stock], and especially [The Trust of the backup]. "

employees Newsnight this approach have felt said unsure.

"I would say that perhaps that is why More Than 40 doctors decided to leave The Service , within three years," who said on the left of GIDS in the past year, The Bbc .

The review recognises Staff had concerns over a period of years. But the Staff claim in the copies, if they did, they were seen as The Problem .

"The People , the concerns are to see how problems and difficult," one employee argued.

"If I concern I was told that I would walk The Line , or I will never progress in my career," said the other.

It is unlikely that all of the employees were critical GIDS than those whose interviews were read by Newsnight.

But The Number of transcripts seen by Newsnight amount to a considerable share - albeit a minority - of the total number of frontline GIDS interviewed Staff in charge of the assessment.

The Tavistock and Portman Trust said it "is" the 2019 review of the GIDS, and is "confident that it will be treated fairly the issues raised".

"the fuse is of the utmost importance to The Trust ," it added.

puberty-blockers

The transcripts detail a number of concerns about The Service .

homophobia in families participating in GIDS is mentioned in all the copies Newsnight has seen.

As well as see that Young People are struggling with their sexuality, and employees say that some of the parents appeared to prefer their children to be transgender and straight, rather than gay.

In one example, a GIDS doctor describes a young man who was to come, as a lesbian and homophobia "within The Family and in the school".

"Suddenly, the young person changes their thoughts, and they began to identify the trans. "

In some of these cases, clinicians thought that it would not be appropriate for the patient to be referred to, which is to say for the puberty-blockers, with a child apparently, "My mum wants to that the hormone More Than I do. "

But the Staff could be repealed by the GIDS-Director Polly Carmichael, the transcriptions suggest.

What is the puberty-blockers are?

puberty blockers stop a young person ' s body grew, the development of Breasts, periods, beard or a deeper voice.

Recently updated to the puberty-blockers acknowledges that little is known about their long-term effects, or the impact it may have On Children 's brains and bones

Nhs England , says that Young People should only be referred for this treatment after a minimum of three sessions.

more:

But the criticism heard from some Staff that a member of the GIDS-leadership, Sarah Davidson, would, sometimes, children for the treatment after only one or two appointments.

"Absolutely, it should never happen, because this is the way that the big, big changes for these Young People , the said potentially infertility" a GIDS doctor.

As a quick reference, Staff could claim risk Young People to potentially changing medication that may have to fight to live, with problems such as Mental Health and sexuality.

The Tavistock Trust said: "there are many ways for the patients with The Service ", and many would not be referred for the consideration of hormone-blocking drugs.

"GID is a safe and caring service supports a wide range of children," she said. "[We] strongly refute the allegations made to us, the added of Newsnight," it is.

Newsnight showed some of the transcripts of The Children 's Commissioner for England and got in touch with the healthcare regulator, the CQC.

Both of them were interested in talking with The People involved.

The CQC encourages anyone with specific concerns about the safety or the security for The Trust to contact you directly. It was due to to investigate GIDS, although routine inspections are currently stopped because of the Corona Virus pandemic.
