April 1960 by President Juscelino Kubitschek initiated the inauguration ceremony for Brazil's purpose built capital city of Brasilia - the exchange of Rio de Janeiro as the Federal capital and seat of government. Together with the city planner Lucio Costa and landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx, Niemeyer designed and built The Core of Brasilia in just 41 months. The Project was very ambitious, but officially only Four Years after the work was started in the year 1956 and includes buildings such as The National Cathedral - a crown-shaped structure of glass suspended between concrete struts which sweep upwards and inwards, And Then in the sky. Rather than bleak and forbidding as the interior of the older cathedrals, flooded inside with light rooms.
