The streaked rosefinch is a true finch species. It is found on the Himalayan Plateau. Its natural habitat is boreal shrubland. Two subspecies are recognised: C. r. rubicilloides - east Tibet to central and southern China C. r. lucifer - southern Tibet and the Himalayas
