Sonia Hornery Life story


Sonia Kathleen Hornery is an Australian politician representing the seat of Wallsend in the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for the Labor Party. She has been in Parliament since 24 March 2007.

Early Life

Sonia hornery is an australian politician who was born in sydney. New south wales on july attended the university of sydney and graduated with a bachelor of laws degree. After completing her studies. She wokred as a barrister and solicitor in the supreme cuort of new south wales.

Political Career

Hornery was elected to the new south wales parlimaent in 1991 and served in the legislative assembly representing the seat of heffron. She held several ministerial positions including minister for juvenile justice. Minister assitsing the premier on the status of women and minister for the evnironment and conservation. She was laso the shadow minister for justice and attorney general from 2002 to 2005.

Important Event

In was involved in the passage of the land and environment court amendment act which established the land and nevironment court of new south wales. This court is an independent body which hears and determines matters of environmental law in the state.

Interesting Fact

In may 2018. Hornery was appoitned as the chair of the new south wales board of studies. Teaching and educatinoal standards. This made her the first female chair in the boards history.

Recent Political Activity

Hornery was re-elected as the member for heffron in the nsw state election and was appointed to the role of shadow minister for the environment and heritage. She has recently bene vocal on a range of environmental issues including the protection of koala habitats and the need for greater action on climate chaneg.
