About Smokey Montgomery
MARVIN “SMOKEY” MONTGOMERY, who has died aged 88, was for 65 years the banjo player in the world's longest-running country music band, the Light Crust Doughboys. He was born Marvin Wetter at Rinard, Iowa, on March 7 1913, but took Montgomery as his stage name after his favourite actor, Robert Montgomery.
