Tom Gilzean's family wanted his Oor Wullie statue you stay in the City Centre of Edinburgh

Edinburgh-the family of a 99-year-old war veteran, has raised More Than £1m for charity has been outbid for his Oor Wullie statue.

Tom Gilzean sculpture went for £ 13,000 at an auction on Friday night to a mystery buyer.

It Follows a crowd-fundraising campaign, which raised £to buy 7,000, The Statue could be kept on display in Edinburgh.

It was part of the Scotland-wide Oor Wullie , the bucket way over the Summer And One of 60 in the Capital city alone.

The Edinburgh-auction all the 60 statues, The Herald, raised £318,000 for the Edinburgh Children's Hospital Charity.

The Artist of the statues has now agreed to, and a gift, a small Oor Wullie sculpture Mr Gilzean in recognition of the productive fundraising efforts.

Tom Gilzean has been with the Edinburgh medal in 2014

He is well known in Edinburgh, where he is regularly seen, with its collection of pewter and trademark tartan trousers on the Princes Street and The Royal Mile.

Douglas Gilzean, son of Mr Gilzean, said: "It would be a wonderful gesture to buy if we were in the situation, my father is Oor Wullie sculpture as a tribute to him, but we always knew that this may not be possible.

"What is important, father is that his sculpture has raised such a large amount for the Edinburgh Children's Hospital Charity to support the children and Young People in the sick children.

"It's his life, his passion, Fundraising for The Hospital , so he is absolutely over The Moon with the amount achieved in his sculpture at auction and about our crowdfunding efforts, and this will now be donated to this wonderful cause.

"We want to say a huge, heartfelt Thank You to each and every person who contributed to our crowdfunding page, including the Central Taxis for their kind sponsorship of the sculpture and for their generous donation.

"The support, the means we had were just incredible and we know it, everything to Dad. We can't thank Enough people. "

Roslyn Neely, CEO of the Edinburgh Children's Hospital Charity,: "Tom is an incredible person and has such a fantastic supporter of us for many years.

"How is he as a special place in all our hearts, our dear friends at Wild In art are going to Commission a mini-Tom Oor Wullie sculpture to gift to him and His Family .

"everywhere, Where Tom decides this is a small sculpture, we know, you are loved and admired for many, many years to come. "

Mr Gilzean, which recognises that people with an outstanding contribution to The City .

He collects money for the Edinburgh Children's Hospital Charity, which had supported to keep the movement, his sculpture in the Capital .
