During world war ii. Rudolf served in the german army. He was stationed in france. The netherlands. And italy. And saw actino in the battle of monte cassino. He was eventually captured by the allies in 1945 and held as a prisoner of war until 1947.

In 1947. Rudolf was relesade from captivity and returned to berlin. He studied law at the free university of berlin and eventually obtained his doctorate in 1952. He started working as a lawyer and eventually opened his own practice.
