Australia fires: The peasants buried their own cattle

Feb 16,2020 2:52 am

Travis and Belinda Attree came back to a burnt house after The Fire -

Belinda Attree goes in the direction of a trench in a paddock in Australia, huge Bush fire was blackened.

"We are as close as we are, without probably getting a bit sick," she says.

In The Ditch - Now a tomb are 20 dead cattle and a kangaroo. All were badly burned when The Fire swept through Corryong, about half way between Melbourne and Sydney.

warning: Some may find The Following pictures are of dead animals distressing

Belinda, her husband Travis , and their children from a terrible last-minute escape, as The Fire swung unexpectedly and roared through their property.

But when they had again passed after The Fire before, they found 11 dead cows, and others that were also injured.

"There you are, mate destroyed says to shoot your own cattle," Travis . "I'm proud of my cattle to you in good condition. And to do this, it is just not right. "

Agriculture Minister Bridget Mckenzie estimates than 100,000 cattle and sheep will put

Travis Attree lost in this season fires, cows. It is an unpleasant reality in Agriculture . But he has never before so.

He tears a little. You have lost to many other things: all your hay, hay shed, another shed full of football memorabilia, two boats and all-terrain vehicle.

But The Animals lose will do The Most hurt. When asked why he was covered with The Animals ' Grave , The Answer is simple.

"My neighbor has yet to be all," he says. "It could go there. "

Belinda recorded a video, how to get back to the plot. In him, in tears, their wounded flock is not followed by the choking haze, knowing that you have no choice but to euthanise many of the shares.

"you need to just in so much pain," she says. "And that is what is hard. What is really, really hard. "

Much of your property, an ashen lunar landscape. There's nothing to eat for the rest of your livestock.

they have donated the rolls of hay on the lawn in front of the house, all of them. But you already have could 30 of your animals sent to the slaughterhouse, and more.

Travis assessment of the damage to his farm

Marilyn and Neil Clydsdale are cattle breeders that have 400 breeding animals on their properties in the vicinity of Corryong. You have lost at least 30, including three of four bulls they raised from birth.

"During The Fire storm, one of them ended up on our front porch, absolutely frizzled," Marilyn says,

Neil has just arrived back on his farm, the bales with a truck, loaded with around. He recovers with a tractor, and with his grandson and his cattle dog, Ned, heads past a dead, bloated animals of the bovine species laid down in a row.

The tractor wanders further up The Hill , and, in addition to The Animals that survived. Neil walks in and unhooks the bales, which unravels down The Hill , and grateful to cattle, dig in.

But he's still figuring out what to do with them.

"have to either sell in a very heavy feeding, cattle, or you are looking for the cattle somewhere else," he says.

He is a collector of antique farm machinery, and it is this Social Network , created an unexpected lifeline.

A collector friend found the owner of a property who wants to eaten an overgrown paddock. You will pay to have the truck your rest of the cattle Down There , but otherwise it is free. It is a tremendous stroke of luck.

But The Day is not done with Neil still. As he feeds his cows, he notes, the large back tires on his tractor hangs from the rim of The Wheel .

It is flat and it is unalterable. He had a replacement part in a shed in the city. But, that burned and it was not insured. It is another of the$1,500 (£800; $1,030) effort is on a list, which is constantly increasing.

It is demoralizing. An insult on top of injury. Neil looks a little gloomy, but there is no time to think about it. There is a lot of work to be done.

Rob Miller is a dairy farmer on the South Coast of New South Wales , with over 1,200 hectares. He was hit twice by fire over The Last couple of months, and they burned out about two-thirds of his country.

"I've never seen two fire Hit Me ever in My Life before," he says.

dairy farmers of Australia, an industry body, says that around 70 dairy farms are affected in this year 20-25 fires, including everyone in New South Wales and Victoria, and maybe 12 in South Australia .

Rob thinks that he has lost up to 20% of its stock. He is always figuring out still there. In some places, the stock may have wandered on to a neighboring property.

Some of his milk cows in heat were held under sprinkler systems. But for many others, The Heat and the stress too much. Cows calving have also been affected.

"We had four or five abortions in The Last 48 Hours ," he says.

The Bush fires have razed to the ground, both inland and coastal regions, the need in Australia this summer

He is, to feed in 25 tons of feed per day all. At the moment, with all the roadblocks, this is impossible.

The Cows were feeding on ration. He ' ll have to get rid of many more. He's going to export some of its lower quality bearings to Japan, as he is able.

There are big decisions to do in the course of the coming week, what with his stick. He is filled with a feeling of dread about the rest of the season.

"I'm on an edge. I know that if I he says my finger of The Pulse , something like this could happen terrible",.

If there is one thing all agree on, is that there is a desperate need for rain, to The Massive fires and the rehabilitation of farms.

Last year was Australia's hottest and driest on record. The tinder dry conditions fed The Fire . And the recovery is also routes likely to water resources, because the newly growing forests to suck huge amounts of water.

"Our catchment area is diabolical, affected by this," says Helen Haynes, The Independent MP for Indi, in Corryong, as well as the upper reaches of the Murray, Australia's largest river system.

And while the cattle farmers have been hit hard, they are certainly not the only agricultural or primary sector, are affected.

Ms Haines says, winemaker, pine plantations, and the hop growers were all hits. It is expected that the impact will be enormous, and it will be national.

After All , the fires stretch from Victoria all the way up to Queensland, and it is almost two months in The Fire season.

Neil Clydsdale 70. He worked in the same property since 1984. He thinks that many of the other local small farmers will simply give up and do Something Else . Personally, he thinks to retirement.

"In terms of financial and emotional stress on people, I think, the will to recover for A Number of years for the community," he says. "It is appalling. "

everyone But feels the same way. The Attrees are confident that with a little luck and a little rain, you'll be Able to by restocking. Also, you don't know what they would do otherwise.

"There is No Other choice for us," says Belinda. "We would never choose to. This is us. "
