Susan Miller (Gene Tierney) works as a shopgirl but fantasizes about one day being rich. One afternoon, she meets Maybelle (Spring Byington) and Warren (Laird Cregar), two con artists on the lookout for a pretty girl to join their marrying-for-money scheme.
