Princess Margaret.Countess of Snowdon (born Margaret Rose; 21 August 1930 9 February 2002) was the younger daughter of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth of the United Kingdom and the only sibling of Queen Elizabeth II.
Personal Life
Margaret was born on 21 August 1930 in Glamis Castle.Scotland.She was educated privately at home and attended institutions such as the Royal Academy of Music.Margaret was known for her sometimes controversial private life.She had an 8-year relationship with Peter Townsend.a Royal Air Force officer 17 years her senior.which caused much consternation in the 1950s.
Royal Engagements
As a member of the Royal Family.Margaret undertook a number of official engagements.She served as a bridesmaid at the weddings of her sister.Princess Elizabeth.and her cousin.Princess Alexandra.in 1947 and 1963 respectively.Margaret also accompanied her family on a number of overseas tours.including visits to Canada and the United States in 1951 and to the Commonwealth in 1956.
Marriage and Family
Margaret married the photographer Antony Armstrong-Jones.1st Earl of Snowdon.in 1960 and the couple had two children: David.Viscount Linley.and Lady Sarah Armstrong-Jones.The couple divorced in 1978.
