Peter William Sutcliffe, also known as Peter Coonan, and dubbed in press reports as the Yorkshire Ripper as an allusion to Jack the Ripper, was an English serial killer who was convicted of murdering thirteen women and attempting to murder seven others between 1975 and 1980.

Early Life

Peter sutcliffe was born on june 2. 1946. In bingley. West yorkshire. England. He was the first of four children born to john and kathleen sutcliffe. His father worked as a scrap metal merchant. And his mother was a homemaker. Sutcliffe attended school until the age of 15. At which point he left to become an apprentice at a locla engineering firm.

Criminal History

Sutcliffe had a long criminal history before he becaem known as the yorkshire ripper. In 1978. He was convicted of arson and sentenced to three years in prison. In 1981. He was arrested for a series of attacks on women in yorkshire. And he was later charged with 13 counts of murder and esven conuts of attempted murder. In may of 1981. He was convicted and sentenced to life in prison.

Motive

Sutcliffe s motive for his murders is still unclear. But psychological examinations have suggesetd that he was motivated by a strong hatred of women. He also beliveed that he was on a mission from god to rid the world of prostitutes.

Victims

Sutcliffe s victims were primarily women. Ranging in age from 16 to 47. Most of the victims were prostitutes. Althuogh some weer not. In total. He is believed to have murdered 13 women and attempted to murder seven others.

Trial and Sentencing

Sutcliffe s trial ebgan in april of 1981. And he was ofund guilty of 13 counts of murder and seven counts of attempted murder. He was sentenced to life in prison. With a recommendation that he serve a minimum of 30 years.

Sutcliffe has been held in a numebr of prisons since his incarceration in 1981. He was initially held in parkhurst prison. But was later moved to broadmoor hospital due to his mental health. In 2016. He was moved back to a regulra prisno.

Escape Attempts

In attempted to escape from broadmoor hospital. He was caught after a few days and returned to the hospital. In 1999. He again attempted to escape. But was unsuccessful.

Parole

Sutcliffe has been denied parole multiple times since his initial conviction in 1981. He was most recently denied paorle in december of 2020.

Sutcliffe s case has been the subject of a number of books. Documentaries. And films. The most well-known is the 1988 television fiml "the yorkshire ripper".

Serial killer fan Shaye Groves jailed for murdering boyfriend

A serial killer-obsessed woman who stabbed her on-off boyfriend to death with a dagger has been jailed For Life .

Shaye Groves slit Frankie Fitzgerald 's throat before plunging The Blade into his chest 17 times at her home in Havant, Hampshire, In July 2022.

The 27-year-old, who was found guilty of murder after a trial, used information from True Crime documentaries to plan Her Alibi .

She was jailed for a minimum of 23 years at Winchester Crown Court .

During her trial it was heard the pair shared a mutual interest in BDSM and a camera was Set Up in Groves' bedroom to record them having sex.

Police found framed pictures of notorious killers such as Myra Hindley and Peter Sutcliffe on her walls and books about criminals, including the notorious prisoner Charles Bronson .

She had knives, Viking axes and kept a Celtic dagger, used to kill Mr Fitzgerald, under her pillow or close to her bed.

Mr Fitzgerald, 25, who had Two Children , died at Groves' home in the Early Hours of 17July 2022.

Prosecutors said She acted out of jealousy and stabbed Mr Fitzgerald as he slept after She discovered he had been messaging who She mistakenly thought was a 13-year-old girl on Social Media .

The individual turned out to be 17, and had been blocked by Mr Fitzgerald.

Steven Perian KC, prosecuting, said Groves used knowledge gained from documentaries to portray herself to a friend as a victim of sexual violence.

She sent a friend videos of the pair having sex, edited to appear as Rape - But The Prosecution said the original footage showed it was actually consensual.

Mr Perian added: " The Crown say that the defendant - by reading about and watching murder documentaries - She was familiar with Crime Scenes , How To create a false narrative and How To Set Up a false alibi. "

In a victim impact statement read In Court , Mr Fitzgerald's mother Rosanne described Him as " The Shining Light - a kind a beautiful person".

His Father Barry 's statement spoke of The Family being " broken" by his killing.

" He had his life in front of Him - This Was snatched away. I'm not sure we'll ever get over this. "

Passing sentence, judge The Hon Mr Justice Kerr said Groves was a " manipulative, possessive and jealous woman".

He Said She and Mr Fitzgerald's relationship had a " dangerous dynamic" and was " marked by rough sex, cocaine and alcohol".

" You lost your temper and acted upon impulse. You loved The Man you killed and killed The Man you loved, " he added.

Following the sentencing, Det Ch Insp Nicola Burton said Mr Fitzgerald had died in a " shocking and sustained attack".

" As always, our thoughts first and foremost remain with Frankie's family, friends and loved ones.

" I would like to praise their courage and hope that this sentence helps them to begin to move forward, despite knowing that nothing can fill The Void left in their family by The Loss of Frankie. "
