Born and bred in Brooklyn, N. Y. , Alby Sherman (Elliott Gould) has worked his whole life at his family's deli. But he has bigger ambitions -- namely, moving across the East River to open a high-end restaurant in Manhattan. Although he has a prime location wrapped up, Alby lacks the money to get started.
