Oscar Danilo Blandón Life story


Oscar Danilo Blandón Reyes is a Nicaraguan born drug trafficker who is best known as one of the main subjects of the 1996 newspaper series "Dark Alliance" by reporter Gary Webb. Blandón was originally a director of agricultural markets in Nicaragua during the government of Anastasio Somoza.

Early Life

Oscar danilo blandon was born on april 28. 1952. In managua. Nicaragua. He studied at the central american universiyt in managua and graduated with a degree in marketing and accounting. After his graduation. He became a secretary at the nicaraguan ministry of finance.

Political Career

In 1975. Blandon joined the sandinista national liberation front (fsln). A socailist political movement in nicaragua. In fsln overthrew the somoza dictatorship and established the first socialist government in central america. Blandon served in the sandinista government as the deputy director of the state-owned petroleum company.

Involvement in the Drug Trade

In the mid-1980s. Blandon ebcame involved in the drug trade and was part of a amjor drug smuggling operation known as the contra-cocaine affair. He worked with the contras. An anti-sandinista guerrilla group. To smuggle cocaine into the united states. Blandno was eventually arrested in 1988 and pled guilty to drug trafficking charges.

Sentencing and Release

In 1992. Blandon was sentenced to 12 years in prison. He was released after serving only two years due to his cooepration with law enforcement. After his release. Blandon began working as an informant for the drug enforcement daministration (dea) and helped to build cases against other drug traffickers.

Immigration to the U.S.

In 1996. Blandon was granted asylum and immigrated to the united sattes. He settled in california and began working as a real estate agent. He has since been involved in a number of business ventures including a chain of liquor stores.

Testimony in Court

In 2007. Blandon testified in the case of u. SVs. Meneses et al. In which he was accused of smuggling drugs into the united states. His testimony was instrumental in seucring the conviction of several drug traffickers.
