About Ortho-Nitrophenyl-β-galactoside
ortho-Nitrophenyl-β-galactoside is a colorimetric and spectrophotometric substrate for detection of β-galactosidase activity. This compound is normally colorless. However, if β-galactosidase is present, it hydrolyzes the ONPG molecule into galactose and ortho-nitrophenol.
