Natta Kota now lives in The Hotel

At the time of booking a holiday in Sri Lanka , many of the dream-of an elephant On Safari .

What is the least to expect is to open your door in a fancy hotel, to see an elephant roaming the hallways.

But, at the Jetwing Yala hotel, in the South-East of the country, this is a fairly regular occurrence.

A video of Natta-Kota - or short-tail - walk around The Hotel while poking things with his suitcase went viral over the weekend.

While many have seen and shared the video in amazement, staff at Jetwing hotel in the vicinity of the Yala National Park , said of the full-grown Asian elephant was "The Hotel 's most loyal patrons" since 2013.

"In the first years, Natta Kota was a seasonal visitor for a few months in the year, before disappearing again into the Bush. During this time he paid frequent visits to other resorts along The Beach routes, as well," a Jetwing, spokesman to the BBC.

"A few years ago, he took Permanent Residence in Jetwing where he is to be allowed, in peace. Natta Kota spends his days asleep in The Shade of the bushes and walks along The Hotel 's trails. "

Natta-Kota is not always on His Best behavior. He has been known to steal fruit from cars and food from The Kitchen .
