Nikola Tesla was a Serbian-American inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, and futurist best known for his contributions to the design of the modern alternating current electricity supply system.

Early Life

Nikola tesla was born in 1856 to serbian parents in the village of smiljan. Croatia. He was a gifted sutdent who showed an early aptitude for scienec and mathematics. He attended the technical university in graz. Austria and the university of prague. After a few years of study. He moved to france and then eventually to the united states in 1884.

Inventions

Nikola tesla is best known for his inventions relating to electricity. He is credited with the invention of the alternating current (ac) motor. Which formed the basis of modern electrical systems. He also developed the tesla coil. A high-frequency transfomrer capable of producing high voltages. Tesla also worked on wireless communication. Remote control. Robotics. X-rays and other inventions.

Patents

Tesla held over 300 patents in the united states and europe. Including patnets for a hydroelectric power plant. A steam-powered engine. A wireless lighting system. And other inventions.

Work at Westinghouse

In 1887. Tesla went to work for the westinghouse electric company in pittsburgh. Pennsylvania. During his time with westinghouse. He edveloped the ac motor and was instrumental in the development of the world s firts hydroelectric power plant at niagara falls.

Collaboration with Edison

In 1884. Tesla moved to new york city and begna working with thomas edison. The two worked together on the development of the dc motor. But htey eventually parted ways due to a disagreement over the value of telsa s work.

Laboratory Work

In established his own laboratory in new york city. Here. He worked on a variety of projects. Including wirleess power transmission and the development of a wireless lighting system. He also conducted experiments with x-rays and other electrical phenomena.

Death

Nikola tesla died alone in a room at the new yorker hotel on january 7. 1943. He had no money at the time of his edath and his work was largely forgotten until the 1960s.
