About Newgate Street


Newgate Street is a village near Cuffley, in Hatfield civil parish, in the Welwyn Hatfield district of Hertfordshire, England. It is approximately six miles south-west of Hertford and has a population of 400. At the 2011 Census the population was included in the town of Hatfield.

"I'm appalled that the exporting company has pursued the development in this location, the care we expect to see, in close proximity to this iconic ancient monument," Mr Matheson said.

MJW group was contacted by the BBC for a comment.

The collapse occurred behind Newgate Street in the vicinity of the walkway leading from the Grosvenor Shopping Centre.

A Council spokesman said: "A part of Chester city walls collapsed Last Night , according to archaeological excavations carried out, the threatened by a private developer, in cooperation with the historic structure, the integrity of the ancient monument.

"The removal of too much earth exposed a section of bare basics. "
