Miss is an English language honorific traditionally used only for an unmarried woman. Originating in the 17th century, it is a contraction of mistress, which was used for all women. A period is not used to signify the contraction.

A woman will referee The Men 's Oxford-Cambridge-boat-race for the First Time in its 166-year history.

Sarah Winckless , a former student at Fitzwilliam College , Cambridge, will officiate at the race on The River Thames in London on 29. March.
