About Merton Of The Movies
In a small Kansas town, theater usher Merton Gill (Red Skelton) has aspirations to become a silent movie actor like his hero, Lawrence Rupert (Leon Ames). When Merton manages to thwart a robbery attempt by mimicking his favorite screen star, he's dispatched to Hollywood on a publicity junket to help rejuvenate Rupert's flagging film career. But Merton's own attempts to break into show business are ridiculed by all except a friendly stuntwoman named Phyllis Montague (Virginia O'Brien).
