Mary Silvina Du Bois Life story
Mary Silvina (also Sylvana) Burghardt was born about 1831 in Massachusetts. She was the daughter of Sally Lampman/Lamphouse and Othello Burghardt, the mother of famous intellectual W. E. B. Du Bois, and the great-granddaughter of manumitted slave Tom Burghardt who briefly served in the American Revolutionary War.
