Mary Emilie Holmes Life story
Mary Emilie Holmes was a 19th-century American geologist and educator who became the first woman to be elected a fellow of the Geological Society of America. She was also one of the cofounders of a seminary for young black women that evolved into Mary Holmes College, which was named in memory of her mother.
