Coronavirus: "We started going out in the first week of lockdown'

Feb 16,2020 3:45 am

Sarah and Tom had a few dates, but at lockdown, She began to had to make a decision about their relationship.

you can either let it get bogged down or you take the leap. They decided to take the plunge.

Select a video-call from separate homes - Sarah in Loughborough and Tom in Leicester - They shared their experiences of what it is like to be in the early stages of a relationship, in a time, if you don't see each other.

Tom Edwards agreed with Sarah Greatrex on tinder in February and met for a date short. It was crazy golf.

"We were both bad," the 29-year-old said, prompting a raised eyebrow from Sarah, also 29. "Who has won?" You reciprocated. They Went on eight dates in total before the lockdown was announced on 23 March.

But you never had that conversation.

So, Six Days after the blockade began, Tom found himself dressed in his kitchen, Sarah's face on the laptop screen at The Other end of The Table . A candle flickered between them.

He had not planned to ask his girlfriend to Zoom.

"I thought, 'I want to do this via video-call". But then on The First day I told you about, 'do you want to start a real relationship?'" he says.

The Answer was "Yes".

Sarah said the couple had not planned for the block.

As They said goodbye to Tom, it was announced a few days before, She accepted, She would see him again at the weekend.

colleagues from the research technician at the University of Leicester , She had asked how the pandemic could change things.

"you," what's going to happen, asked, if we go into lockdown?'. I was like, 'I have no idea". "

"We didn't know what was going on, so that we think about it," She shrugs. "It was not so, that panic of 'we're not going to see each other". I think we knew that we could adapt. "

"It's so weird to say to friends I have a boyfriend now, She added. "They are like:" What? But you're in your house, on your own - how does it work?'"

Every Sunday night date.

Tom, a physical therapist, he has a lot of the pandemic, you work on a coronavirus-the hospital, that the date on the video has calls, brought them closer together, faster.

"I think it's because you have to Zoom in, literally to watch each other, talk to each other. You can't sit there and watch a movie and have a hug. You are only talking to each other," he says.

"I think if you can do that, for eight weeks in a row, it makes you stronger. "

It's still not the same as meeting In Person , he says. "But I think we made The Best of a bad situation. "

"We got out of our pajamas and actually put on some nice clothes," he laughs. You can cook the same dish, roasted lamb a week, slow cooked Chili The Next , and "just sat down with wine and a candle, as we were on a date."

Frustrated by their unsuccessful efforts, to free themselves from a pandemic-themed room escape on a pre-lockdown-date, They tried their hand at a virtual version, for Tom ' s birthday in April.

They Even had an online-Monopoly-double-date with Tom's roommate and his girlfriend.

"I tried charades to happen, but it was a one-way game, really," he says.

Every Friday , Sarah takes part in a virtual quiz with Tom's Family - Even if you can, you still. Sarah is teammates with Tom and to talk on The Phone .

But while She catches snippets of the conversation group, it has not yet been officially introduced on the Zoom chat.

"I'm not going to do that you have to laugh to Zoom in", Tom. "My parents tried as hard as She could, to scream, to Sarah and try to embarrass me, but I don't think Sarah could hear you properly. "

Sarah also has hunts participated in the Family scavenger.

She thinks that these fragments of communication ease the pressure, if you do not finally meet His Family In Person .

"I know your personality a little bit, now, so there is at least something to talk about," She says. "It is not only the beginning. and you will ask: "who are you and what are your intentions'?"

Afternoon Tea

in the Last month after Boris Johnson announced that Two People could meet from different households in England, Sarah and Tom were finally able to see each other In Person again.

you don't know how much influence the decisions of the Prime Minister would have on their relationship.

their Sunday date nights quickly social-detached date days.

for The First Time , Sarah found it odd to sit on separate picnic blankets outdoors, each with their own Afternoon Tea in a take-away box.

"I said, 'I want to touch my food,'" She says.

Due to the nature of their Jobs - and the fact that you are shopping for your parents, the shield - it says that it measures both "overthink" social distancing -.

But Sarah says, it "would not only work," if a person was less strict than The Other . "We would just think, 'we can't be together, if we do not similar thoughts about you'.

"It's just funny - instead of a bottle of wine, the free, a bottle of sanitizer. "

The "freedom list"

And so the couple are now making plans for The Future .

Tom has a "freedom list" save in the notes on his phone of date ideas for when the block is at the end.

It has The Names of restaurants you want to go to, the meals you plan to cook together, a second attempt, a real-escape-rooms and a visit to an Alpaca farm.

For now, however, social distancing meet-ups are not always an improvement to see each other all.
