About Lake Tekapo

Lake Tekapo is in the South Island of New Zealand. It's fringed by the Southern Alps and known for its turquoise colour. At its southern end, in Lake Tekapo township, is the stone Church of the Good Shepherd. The lake is part of the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve, with low light pollution. The Mt. John Observatory offers views of the night sky and the Southern Lights (Aurora Australis).
