Khariton Prokofievich Laptev was a Russian naval officer and Arctic explorer. Khariton Laptev was born in a gentry family in the village of Pokarevo near Velikiye Luki, just a year before his cousin Dmitry Laptev was born in the nearby village of Bolotovo.
