Election debate: Five things that Johnson v Corbyn head-to-head

Feb 16,2020 8:23 am

first choice-The Debate between Boris Johnson and Jeremy Corbyn , saw a trace of anger, a disturbing amount of laughter, and, fortunately, No Tears .

Here are the five most important moments from the hour-long ITV program:

The NHS and Brexit

Jeremy Corbyn was always likely to suit Boris Johnson tire claim on his familiar that the NHS will be thrown open to US pharmaceutical giants such as The Price of a post-British EU-deal outlet.

The clock is inscribed this was a Conspiracy Theory in The Past , but the Labour leader, armed with a vision - a revised account of the "secret meetings" had to open the government, with U.S. trade officials, "in which it proposes to our NHS markets, as you call them, to the Americans".

It provoked The First real flare-up of The Debate .

Mr Johnson said it was "absolute nonsense" and "completely untrue", and added, for good measure, "our NHS will never be for Sale ".

.

monarchy

Another tense matter for discussion among the politicians, now to Prince Andrew, and the persistent questions about his relationship with American businessman and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein met.

In this debate, The Exchange started innocently enough, with a quickfire question to both leaders about what they thought of the monarchy.

Mr Corbyn faced some Boos, but the applause when he said: "Needs a little improvement. "

But with Prince Andrew ' s-BBC-Newsnight-interview received fresh in the minds of the people, Mr Johnson, a similar answer when he said: "the institution of The monarchy is beyond any doubt. "

The couple were then asked if The Prince himself was beyond reproach, said to Mr Corbyn, should first focus on The Victims .

"I think there are very, very serious questions that must be answered, and no one should be added above The Law ," he said.

Mr Johnson said: "all our sympathies" should be with The Victims of Epstein, before adding: "The Law must surely take its course. "

handshake, the ITV Julie Etchingham encouraged the leader to shake the Hand of the tone of The Debate in the run-up to the Election - Something that Westminster has followed for many months.

But the ITV-host Julie Etchingham is trying to solve a new tactic, the ongoing Bad Blood between the rival parties.

you asked to say Mr Johnson and Mr Corbyn, if you would be a "gesture" on the stage, they would ensure that things are not bad over the next three weeks prior to the survey.

And after an uncomfortable glance at each other, one of The Most embarrassing hands came to shake in TV history, as Mr Johnson striding across the stage to hug his rival.

Well, it's the thought that counts.

The laughter was not intended to be, a night of stand-up on ITV

It was pitched as a serious head-to-head debate between The Top dogs in the Conservative and Labour parties.

But there is a considerable amount of laughter was aimed at the two figures on the stage.

Mr Johnson ' s " constant return to the theme of British EU exit prompts a lot of laughs, as it was clear the PM had a message to hammer home.

But Mr Corbyn giggles not to escape to, especially if you are dancing around the question of whether he ever go back or Remain in a future referendum.

We were just glad to see that everyone is having a Good Time .

The Jam The two leaders to share A Love jam appeared - if not much else.

As we are on the verge of our first Christmas choice in almost 100 years, it seemed only fitting to have a festive question slot at the end of The Debate .

Asked what you would leave under any trees this year, Mr Corbyn went to get a copy of Charles Dickens ' A Christmas Carol , Mr. Johnson, "could not understand how, evil Scrooge was".

The PM offered his Brexit deal to read well, but when reminded that The Answer to be referring to was not political, he changed jam his response to some of the damson.

"I make My Own jam!", called the Labour leader - Famous for his allotment growing skills.

Maybe just a card, guys.

Remember, the two politicians to be interviewed on Friday as part of a BBC Question Time Special - along with the SNP's Nicola Sturgeon and Lib dem's Jo Swinson and face each other in a head - to-head race on the BBC on 6. December .
