John Bradfield Life story
John Job Crew Bradfield CMG was an Australian engineer best known as the chief proponent of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, of which he oversaw both the design and construction. He worked for the New South Wales Department of Public Works from 1891 to 1933.

The ‘Coathanger' was the brainchild of engineer John Bradfield who spent 30 years gathering support for it and overseeing the design and construction.
His grandson Peter Bradfield spoke to Witness History for the 90th anniversary of The Bridge opening.
“He went through war, he went through [The Great Depression] and he still managed to get the support he needed to get it done,” said Mr Bradfield.
