About Izumo-class Helicopter Destroyer
The Izumo-class multi-purpose destroyers or 22DDH are helicopter carriers in service with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. In December 2018, the Japanese Cabinet gave approval to convert both ships in the class into aircraft carriers capable of operating the STOVL F-35B.
