The Salisbury poisoning: TV drama engages Novichok attack 'horror'

Feb 16,2020 9:52 am

The drama centers on the Wiltshire is set by The Director of Public Health Tracy Daszkiewicz, played by Anne-Marie Duff

scenes of the streets in lockdown, health officers wearing PPE, dangerous, contaminated surfaces, and a battle with an Invisible Enemy , in a new TV drama from the Sunday.

But The Events in the Bbc One started The Salisbury poisoning took place two years before the Corona-Virus-pandemic.

The three-part series based on The Events of March 2018, when the Wiltshire Cathedral City faced one of the biggest threats to UK Public Health in The Last few years.

Sergei Skripal and his daughter Julia were broke found and foaming at The Mouth on a city-centre Bank, after they had been poisoned with the deadly nerve agent, Novichok.

The government would later conclude it was an attack by two agents of The Russian intelligence service, the GRU.

It is an extraordinary story, the Salisbury is still recovering. But the dramatization is not shortened, a kind of James Bond-style spy thriller.

The Skripals you only see briefly at the beginning of The First episode, and The Russian suspects in all. Instead, it focuses on the response of The Local community and health officials.

The series opens with Sergei and Julia Skripal, found on a bench

"We were drawn to the stories of The People , to clean up this mess, but as The People who have made it," says Declan Lawn, who co-wrote the screenplay with Adam Patterson.

"It's about Ordinary People who have to Pick Up the pieces. We thought, this is where the drama was, where the emotion was. We wanted to not do the obvious, what is a spy drama would probably be.

"But I hope that what we have done, to show that there are people who take a bullet for us, they are a hidden network of people who hold together this society. "

reluctance

at The heart of The Salisbury poisoning is Tracy Daszkiewicz (played by Anne-Marie Duff), The Director of Public Health for Wiltshire.

they had been appointed only three months before the Skripals were poisoned, but Wiltshire Council had been working for More Than a decade.

In reality, Daszkiewicz played a significant role in the response to the poisoning, but avoided to not be the media exposed, in part, to betray The Trust of The Local residents.

Together with The Police , who used CCTV to work meticulously to find out who the Skripals may come in contact with on The Day that they were poisoned, and took a cautious approach for the protection of The Public .

"well, it seems perfectly logical," says Duff, refers to how often certain measures in the field of health care since the coronavirus. "Of course, we close our doors and Windows and masks, but at The Time , it seemed, as she was, thoroughly extreme and overreacting.

"But what is wonderful about Tracy is her background. Her background is in Social Work , she is very down-to-earth, she comes at things from a tactile level. So, you ask, " What do we know to be true? What do we know, if someone has food poisoning? What if the water is contaminated source?'"

Both Skripals survived The Attack , as Det Sgt Nick Bailey , a Police Officer , was one of The First to respond to The Attack .

But a local woman, Dawn Sturgess, died after contact with the substance, the a few weeks after The First attack.

Dawn Sturgess is the only person who died as a result of The Attack

On 30 June , Ms Sturgess and her partner Charlie Rowley was uncomfortable joints in A House in Amesbury, eight miles from Salisbury, after spraying a bottle of perfume with Novichok on your hand.

The perfume had given her as A Gift from Rowley, who had. He Said it was disguised as a well-known perfume brand, and was in the sealed packaging.

the actress Myanna Buring , who Ms plays Sturgess says may surprise poisoning the portrayal of her in the Salisbury, who is the media reporting her death in the year 2018.

"many of us remember many news outlets describe her as homeless and a drug addict, and, so to speak, you dismiss the death as inevitable, because of your decisions in life," burial recalls.

"And that was simply not true. You are not a drug wasn't homeless, she was dependent, she was A Woman who had experienced Mental Health , and knocks in life, I think that all of us can relate to. You have to battle with alcohol, but she was working really hard to transform your life. She had a loving family, partner, Friends . "

Yulia Skripal, of Moscow, was found on the Bank next to your father,

It can often take a long time for a TV drama or a film about a real event in life, but The Salisbury poisoning, turned around relatively quickly. In fact, the series was only months in The Last couple of.

Director Saul Dibb explains: "We shot our last sequence, in the week before lockdown [23. March], and then we're finished, it from the distance. It had just took over this creeping feeling of resonance as a coronavirus us. "

The drama was filmed mainly in Newport, South Wales , plus Bristol and other parts of the South-west, instead of in Salisbury itself. the producers were "very sensitive" about where to re-create certain events.

Nevertheless, there was some criticism of the drama, also of the DS, Bailey's parents that the series was "inappropriate premature." DS Bailey, but did not object to, and has taken Rafe, The Actor playing him, Spall.

As ITV's recent drama the Quiz, The Bbc has decided the transfer of the three episodes on consecutive nights, instead of risking the loss of momentum (and audience interest) by you on a weekly basis.

As a drama, it "works as a narrative on different levels," says Dibb. "It is partly a domestic drama, partly a thriller, partly also to the future, virus-horror, this Invisible Enemy that will kill you many people.

"So it was important to take advantage of opportunities, all these things will be able to tell A Story , which I think we all feel, had the potential, More Than a simple docu-drama

"And it's extraordinary, surreal, this weird thing happened in The Middle of this small British Cathedral of the city, that even if you are poisoned directly or not, everyone - it seemed to me - was contaminated by the Poison . "

The Salisbury poisoning starts on Bbc One at 21:00 CEST on Sunday, 14. June .
