A duck house claimed on the cost, which came to symbolize, a Westminster scandal

Who do you trust?

This is no small question. But it is the basis, when It Comes to policy.

to work For the democracy, well, the voters have to at least believe a little bit that if politicians decisions, you are doing it in our best interest, or at least, they do what they perceive as The Right thing, even if you believe that you are completely wrong.

There is little doubt that the tortures of the Brexit process saw the trust as the tear stretched.

While in such an era of political controversy, it is of great concern to thousands of columns and hours of discussion on the airwaves about the damage that was done, The British public didn't just Wake up one morning and decide that their leaders are charlatans were a bunch of has.

And there are many reasons why the voters had concerns about whether they could trust you, long before a specific campaign group a certain number on the side of a red bus.

The meltdown of the financial System in September 2008, cast a Long Shadow

It is a different age seems to be, but it was the dramatic events in the last ten years, which will certainly undermine The Relationship between The Public and those in power.

And in a new documentary, The decade of mistrust, broadcast on BBC Radio 4 on Saturday evening, we dip into the archive from 2000 to 2010.

We will revise the political controversies surrounding the Iraq War , the jaw-dropping revelations of the MPs' scandal of the estimate-busting increase in immigration, the horror of the Harold Shipman 's murders and More Than Anything Else , is the financial crash, the moment when The Foundations of the economy and the basis of our political assumptions, which just fell to the ground.

The program takes us back to Gordon Brown living room in Fife, and George Osborne , the editor ' s office on the Evening Standard in London at the time.

It was almost scary, talk to the two about how The Crash unfolded and the impact on our faith in the political System .

the Political leaders in The First decade of the 21St Century has not faced a growing mistrust

The former Prime Minister now believes that the people lost confidence because his government made mistakes in dealing with The Crisis , but because they do not you explain to The Public what had happened.

He said to me: 'We have not been able to properly communicate with each other, and the trust was lost because of the.

"I look back to Roosevelt to that Saturday Night on the radio I thought what The Medium is, in order to convey our message?

"the people wanted to game shows. Social Media was big, but we didn't really recognize, The Power of it.

"So we have to make our message correctly, we can't explain, it is a Bank crisis, it was in the world, we had an answer. "

George Osborne reflected that The Combination of events in those years, the "rabbit-punches, of the scandal and the bailout of the banks" created a climate where people found it more difficult to trust the government with the consequences we are still living today, although he says that the caricatures he published in The Paper , he now works to far less rude than those in previous centuries.

The British voters have always been healthy skeptical bunch.

the politicians have never exactly held up as models of virtue.

But it is hard for every political generation to restore public faith and trust, when it is gone, and The First 10 Years of This Century set The Scene for the riots in the UK, we have seen just everything.
