Modest nurse Nora Gilpin (Loretta Young) has fond memories of a brief, youthful love with John Raymond (Joseph Cotten), now a prominent attorney. Ignoring those feelings, she accepts the marriage proposal of longtime suitor Tim McCarey (Cecil Kellaway).
