Climate change: Major changes in the conduct of life 'required to the emissions'

Feb 16,2020 3:21 am

We need to change our behavior and our way of life, says Sir Ian

people need to use less transportation, eat less Red Meat and buy less clothing if the UK is to practically stop greenhouse gas emissions by 2050, the government's chief environmental scientist has warned.

Professor Sir Ian Boyd said The Public had little idea of the magnitude of The Challenge of the so-called.

However, he said, the technology would help.

The objection was to the UK - and Elsewhere - as we change away from consumption, he added.

In an interview with Bbc News , Sir Ian warned that strong Political Leadership is necessary to take account of The Public through The Challenge .

Asked if Boris would deliver Johnson for The Lead , he declined to comment.

Mr Johnson has already been accused of, to speak of the environmentalists, to electric cars while allegedly, a cut in the travel tax, the increase in emissions, and to undermine the market of electric vehicles.

Sir Ian said environmentally harmful activities are to be created, more taxes. He believes that the Treasury should pattern with the reform of tax policy to reward people with low-carbon ways of living and push heavy consumers in a simple behavior.

the most important Thing was, he said, the changes will be fair to all parts of the society.

But He also believes that net-Zero is not going to happen unless the government creates a net-Zero-Ministry of vocational training policies of all ministries in the way of the Brexit Ministry of animal doctors Brexit-related decisions.

the emissions are reduced to net Zero, while the Ministers are fixated on Economic Growth as measured by the GDP, instead of other measures, such as ecological safety and a relatively stable climate, he argued.

Asked why the UK should take The Lead , if China's emissions are so high, he replied that the Chinese government was very concerned about the climate and took it very seriously.

Sir Ian has in his post as the government's chief environmental scientist for seven years

Sir Ian, a polar expert with a professorship in biology at the University of St. Andrews, suggested that the United Kingdom was in a good position to show The World How To achieve Net Zero. But he agreed that a similar radical measures was, ultimately, necessary by all Nations.

He said that about more General topics, which had produced the government (or was in The Process of making) impressive strategies on The Environment , waste, air pollution, marine and food industry.

Some Ministers were enthusiastic, translate these into business strategies, But they needed support from The Public , he said. He confessed that he was optimistic about The Future of The Planet , because so many systems need the government to in a short period of time.

Sir Ian, the leaves Defra on Thursday after seven years in the post, said: "The way we live our lives is generally good for The Environment .

"We like to consume things, But the more we consume, the more we deepen the resources of The Planet .

"does That mean we have to grow the resources, or we will have you mean and the fact that we produce waste. And the fuel consumption goes up in all of the time.

"(There is) a mystery - as we shift away from the consumer? We need to learn more about living sustainably. We talk about sustainability, But we don't really know what it means.

"We need to make great technological advances in the way we use and re-use of materials, But we (also) need to demand to reduce overall, and that means that we need a change in our behaviour and change our life styles.

"We will certainly not be able to travel as much as we have used in The Past , so we have to do with the aid of modern communication methods.

"Move material around The Planet is printing more and more difficult, so we will have to do more with 3D; that kind of Thing .

more use is needed, new technologies such as 3D printing

"We have the demand to reduce, to a much Greater extent than we have in The Past , and if we don't demand, we are not going to be emissions to reduce.

"emissions are a symptom of the consumption, and unless, we reduce energy consumption we will not reduce the emissions.

"It will come very, very rarely down to a direct message like "sorry, you can't buy, But you can buy this'. But it is stronger messages within the (tax) system, a more attractive than The Other is. "

He said the British government's strategies have been on-air, environmental -, resource -, waste -, marine -, and food. "[The Ministers] have to be convincing. "

Asked whether he was optimistic about The Future of The Planet : “We have The Intelligence to do it; we have the potential to do the development of the technologies, it... I am doubtful that we have the governance structures to make it happen at the speed it needs to happen. "

Richard Black, of think-tank the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit (ECIU), said Sir Ian's words were "a little surprising".

He added: "they seem to contradict each other, the mass of evidence gathered on getting to net-Zero, including the important report of the government's statutory adviser to The Committee on Climate Change . "

I understand that the Confederation of British Industry, CBI, accept, it will make behavior changes to net-Zero.

A source in the organization said they were frustrated that the government's climate policy is currently too weak.

in view of the very wide spread of Sir Ian comments, we approached Downing Street for comment.

she walked back past us to Sir Ian Department, Defra. But your statement does not address any of its Central issues relating to the governance, management and consumption.

He said: "The impact of Climate Change is clear and calls for urgent actions from countries around The World . The UK already has a leading role to adopt by The First large economy, the laws, the for net-zero emissions by 2050 - But we know there is more to do.

"That is the reason why we have the Reform of the common agricultural policy to reward environmental measures, the review, which will ensure our food system, it is to accelerate sustainable steps, tree-planting and moorland restoration, and the introduction of a flagship environment to address the biggest environmental priorities in our age.
