About Gower Peninsula


Gower or the Gower Peninsula is in South Wales. It projects westwards into the Bristol Channel and is the most westerly part of the historic county of Glamorgan. In 1956, Gower became the first area in the United Kingdom to be designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

A former British paratrooper isolated on an uninhabited Shetland Islands to lockdown measures were introduced in the middle of a fundraising challenge to walk the British coast.

Chris Lewis has walked 12,000 miles, after setting off from the vicinity of his home in Swansea in August 2017.

He now gets special permission To Live in a house on Hildasay, together with His Dog Jet.

The 108-acre island is located off the Western coast of the Shetland festival.

The 39-year-old slept in a tent on The Mainland of Shetland if lockdown restrictions March 23 were imposed to contain the spread of the Corona Virus.

Since then, Mr Lewis survived, and thanks to a regular boat to drop fresh water and coal.

He Said he collects safely drift-wood, fodder and fish for his food, and the always makes, he has a three-week supply of Dog Food for Jet.

Hildasay has been uninhabited since the late 19Th Century , with Mr Lewis, and Jet was only 15 sheep and thousands of birds.

"It has really given me A Chance to move to The Island to enjoy," He Said .

"I'm able to reflect, to walk as far, only to realize, what this has done to Help Me personally, and the amount of amazing people in the UK.

"I'm the happiest I have ever been. "

Almost 40,000 people have been following Mr Lewis's journey on a Facebook-Chris walks in the UK.

Mr Lewis said he was struggling to face life on "civvy street" after leaving the Parachute Regiment and finding themselves homeless.

He slept on The Street and in the cars in front of SSAFA, which he describes as "really amazing", stepped in to help.

He made himself of Llangennith beach on the Gower Peninsula , with just £10 in his pocket and a few days of supplies, to raise money for The Charity .

If he is able to resume his fundraising challenge, Mr Lewis is on His Way to The North of Scotland, before you get down on the East Coast of the UK.
