Father Selbix Life story
Father Selbix (died 875) was a West Saxon Catholic priest in the service of King Alfred the Great, whom he crowned as king in 871. In 875, he was given to the Danes as a hostage by Alfred, and he was instructed to convert the Viking leader Guthrum to Christianity.
